On 14 Feb. 2020, USFDA approved Horizon’s Procysbi™ delayed release granules. Horizon already markets Procysbi™ in the form of delayed release capsules. This is another dosage form alternative of Cysteamine bitartarate.
As per Horizon’s press release, both the capsules and the packets contain the same PROCYSBI granules, also called microbeads, that provide 12 hours of cystine control (See here).
Advantage of delayed release granules: Oral granules in packets offers a tear-open option for those who may have difficulty swallowing, need to sprinkle the granules on certain foods or liquids, or administer medication through a gastrostomy tube (g-tube).
Launch of Procysbi granules: Horizon announced launch of Procysbi granules on 27 April 2020 (See here)
